Contribution of Halls and Collegiate Culture to University Education
The College of St John’s the Evangelist is celebrating its 100th Anniversary with a series of activities this year. In many ways the College could achieve much in the past because of the support of its students, alumni, the University, the Halls Committee, the Hall Student Associations, and your good self.
As part of the Celebrations, we are inviting you to a Seminar sponsored by the College, entitles “Contribution of Hall and College Culture to University Education”. As the title suggest, the Seminar seeks to explore how Halls and Collegiate cultures have help shaped and develop some of the finest and best university education in Europe and the UK, and how this could enrich and enhance the quality of education in University of Hong Kong.
We have seen how the 2 Halls Retreat, last year and this, has given us insights and actions that will further define Halls and Collegiate life in our university. The Seminar seeks to support and add momentum to these developments.
Invited to the Seminar are Alumni, Fellows and Council of the College, Wardens of all University administered Halls and Colleges, Halls Student Association Executive Committees, Representatives of University Students Affairs Office, and Faculty of the University.
The Principal speaker is Professor Liang Wei Yao, President of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, and Honorary Fellow of St John’s College. The Respondents are Professor Gareth Jones, graduate of Oxford and Cambridge, and Dean of Studies of St John’s College; and several members of the Alumni of St John’s College including Mr. Vincent Chiu (Chairman of College Alumni Association) and Mr. Paul Lee (alumni and College Council member).
The Seminar will be held at 7.45pm in the Senior Common Room, St John’s College, 82 Pokfulam Road, HK. You are also invited to Sherry in the Senior Common Room at 6.30pm, and Hightable Dinner (no charge) at 7.00pm in the College Dinning Hall.
