HKU x SJC Centenary RTI

Join us at the HKU × SJC Centenary Round the Island!

The history of Round the Island (RTI) started somewhat accidently 27 years ago when five St Johnians embarked on a brave unplanned run – one which ended up circling the whole of the Hong Kong Island. Today, it has grown to become an annual event attracting runners from the broad community of the University.

In celebration of the Centenary of both St John’s College and the University of Hong Kong, we are launching a special Centenary RTI this year on the mid-night of Dec 17 (Sat) – Dec 18 (Sun) for HKU students, staff and alumni. To St Johnians, this will be a good occasion to recall the good old days when we all pushed our boundaries and did the unthinkable. For those who did not join the RTI before, this is your chance to taste this legendary run.

RTI is a heritage of St John’s and we hope that through this exciting event, our Spirit of Aquila – to “Strive for the Best” – will be passed on and shared within the HKU community. This year’s run is also particularly special because it is part of the Centenary Celebrations, and the award presentation ceremony will be held at the Cocktail Reception of the HKU Centenary Gala Dinner at the HKCEC, right after the RTI on the same day.

So what will happen at the night?

As some of you might already know, runners will start from St John?s College at 82 Pokfulam Road after midnight, passing Causeway Bay, Shau Kei Wan, Tai Tam, Repulse Bay, Aberdeen? and for this year, finish at the Main Campus of HKU. It’s a total of 37.6 km – but don’t worry if you are not a serious runner, because over 2,000 St Johnians have finished the route before, and every year we wait for the last one to come back! There will also be teams of supporters to cheer you up and provide you with refreshments, snacks, and all the positive energy you’ll need at 12 different check points.

Run for a good cause

By participating, you will not only enjoy the run itself, but will also be supporting the community at the same time. All enrollment fees will be donated to The People’s Food Bank of the St James’ Settlement (http://foodbank.sjs.org.hk/) to provide food for street sleepers and emergency food supplies for the poor to relieve their hunger.

We welcome individual entries as well as groups of maximum 4 runners to join as relay. There is a quota of 400 participants, first-come-first-served.

Enrollment Fees:
Current HKU students: $100 each
HKU alumni & staff: $300 each
Team entry (a Maximum of 4): $1,000 per team
