Summer Internship Update

This is the third year that SJCAA organizes the summer internship for our current St. Johnians.

Why does SJCAA still organize the internship when the market is picking up?

Well there are a couple of reasons for it.

First of all, as our St. Johnians are very active and they also need to get involve in a lot of activities in the summer including organizing the F&C Camp, Information Day and Orientation. So actually the time allocated for them to do summer internship is also very restricted. Quite a lot of the jobs offered by the University might not fit in the right window for our St. Johnians.

In addition, our St. Johnians are quite Hall orientated, so they might not be very active in pursing summer jobs like those non-hall or very university focus students. This makes them a bit disadvantageous in getting the appropriate jobs which normally have great competition from the campus students.

Last but not least, this is truly a good Alumni function to show the continuity of our Hall Life and the support of the Alumni towards the wholistic Hall Education concept.

This year, we have a historical high number of St. Johnians applying for the internship – sixty (60)!

Some of professions that they are interested to get exposure are:-

11 – Banking and Finance
12 – Marketing, PR and management
3 – Accounting
6 – Legal
9 – IT and Engineering
2 – Government and administration
3 – Insurance
Rest – Education, logistic, R&D, Nutrition, Sports and recreation etc.

We just need a window of six-week opening from you or your firm to assist the students (13 June to 22 July 2005). SJCAA will cover the employee compensation insurance for you and the students are quite happy to work without pay. However, the jobs should be of value to them in their future career and a reference letter will be provided to them when they complete the internship in your company.

If you want to make a contribution to this meaningful annual function of the Alumni, please do not hesitate to write to our Student Rep. Ms. Cathy Chan – cathycat@hkusua.hku.hk, or our director Ms. Angela Man – cathycat@hkusua.hku.hk
They will be very kind to contact you in due course for more details and arrange appropriate internship student(s) for you.

I look forward to your favourable reply.

Yours faithfully,
